I really like fruit and I always have. It really doesn’t matter what it is or how it is prepared. Whether it’s just the plain fruit, mixed in bread, blended in a smoothie, or dehydrated I will more than gladly eat it. One of my all time favorites though would have to be grilled pineapple which is right up there with the Pineapple Dole Whip. If you haven’t tried the Pineapple Dole Whip then I highly recommend you get one the next time you are at Disneyland or in Hawaii at the Dole Plantation.
My first experience eating grilled pineapple was at a Brazilian Churrascaria, also known as a meat lovers buffet. It was a refreshingly, delicious treat after eating all of the grilled meats served at the churrascaria. Grilling the pineapple really brings out the flavors and adds a nice char, elevating the taste to whole new level. Once the taste of a grilled pineapple won me over I instantly added it to my personal grilling bucket list.
Well that bucket list item has been checked off because I officially grilled a pineapple and it was FANTASTIC!!! Shawn and Gus from Psych would definitely approve this pineapple. The best part is how simple it was to do. Even someone who is a novice at the grill could do it without feeling threatened. This is one of those wow dishes that you could prepare at any family or friend BBQ.
When grilling a pineapple the only thing needed is a pineapple, brown sugar, and honey. The hardest part of this whole process is cutting off the outside of the pineapple shell (not entirely sure on the actual name). This is probably the least favorite thing for anyone to do so if you have a trick on how you cut the outside of a pineapple please do share with everyone below. Once the shell is removed I combine brown sugar and honey in a bowl. This is used to baste the pineapple.
Take the pineapple and place it directly on the grill on a high heat. The pineapple naturally has a lot of liquid so it will take a while to grill the outside. I left mine on the grill for 3-5 mins, rotated the pineapple to a new side and repeated the 3-5mins. Repeat these steps until the pineapple is charred evenly on each side. Once fully cooked on all sides remove the pineapple, slice it, and serve.
- 1 pineapple, with the skin chopped off
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- Add honey and brown sugar to a bowl. Stir to combine.
- Place pineapple on grill over high heat.
- Brush with honey and brown sugar mixture.
- Turn every 3-5 minutes until all sides are cooked, brushing with honey and brown sugar after each turn.
- Slice and serve.
